The Purple House in Smithfield is one of the oldest, most funkiest, air-conditioned and grooviest guest houses in the Free State. This Guest House is run by the owner himself and is always available. There is a generator in case of power outages.
The Half Moon Room is a modern and spacious room set in a rondawel. It has a separate and private bathroom with shower. Either a king-size bed is used or it can be converted into 2 single beds. Another single bed is available upon request. There is a small kitchenette and satellite TV. Electric blankets and high quality percale sheets and a duck duvet is provided.

There is a kitchen and bathroom with a gas shower. It is ideal for a family to overnight or even for long-term stays for contractors. It is basic but comfortable. Electric blankets and high quality percale sheets and a duck duvet are provided.
Guests have access to free Wi-Fi for entertainment.
Coffee and tea-making facilities are provided in the kitchen and there is a small café in the garden. Dinners and breakfasts are served inside the house or on the veranda. You could also have it in the lovely tea garden with a little pond. The house also has a private cinema for entertainment; prior arrangement for shows is a must.

We had a great stay, had a lovely spacious room. We felt welcome, and our host prepared a delicious dinner. His hospitality will always stay with us!
Although we were absent guests literally staying there for three nights, we felt very much at home. Johan is a nice host who works hard to make sure the guests are comfortable. Thank you Johan for three wonderful nights there with you. Walk carefully.
Big, neat, clean room, everything needed.
The evening meal was made by Johan as the restaurant around the corner was closed. His breakfast omelet was mouth-watering. Accommodation is really awesome.
Johan was a superb host and cared for our every need. We were very comfortable and warm on a very cold winter's night.

When you arrive here, you immediately realize this place is different. The unique style of the house is a welcome change after a long drive. It's an experience to be here. Every corner has something to look at. The rooms are clean and sleep well. Can't ask for anything more. The breakfast was also tasty and on time. Definitely an experience that I will remember and tell about.

Was disappointed that breakfast was not served as it was a requirement when deciding where to stay. We also couldn't get dinner as we requested and were directed to the local clubhouse, about a kilometer away, where the choice was basically limited to pizza (various). However, the accommodation was neat and clean.
Johan is an incredible host. He immediately makes you feel at home and goes out of his way to help you.

Purple House is a very cute and imaginative place. We slept there 2 times. Rooms are very interesting, neat and fully furnished. We had trouble with our car on the way to our destination and Johan went out of his way to help us with it. He is friendly and helpful and more than willing to go the extra mile. Will definitely stay there again and recommend it for sure.

Johann went out of his way to accommodate us. My children came down from Bloemfontein and we came up from East London to meet there for a surprise birthday for my husband. Johann went out of his way, cooked us dinner and breakfast himself (we requested meals ahead of time) and it was delicious. Very clean and the beds were comfortable.

Johan is an attentive and friendly host who will take care of your every need or question. Made us a delicious dinner on a Sunday night, when all the restaurants were closed, and showed what a talented musician he is. The rooms were spacious, clean and very comfortable with good beds and bedding.
